FacebookTwitterWhen that it is to buy tools, everyone has an opinion. Some people buy the cheapest tool can be found, wait for it to break, then replace it, knowing all the time that there will still be spent less on their junky tools, broken to be if they had bought a real brand begin with. Others want to buy the best can afford even if his tool chest ends up costing more than the family car. I fall somewhere in the Middle as DIY tools go. To see the difference between a disposable tool and a decent, withdraw this comparison of jack.Comments (3) view all PostsSharePrevNextLeave a CommentCommentsFebruary 29, 2012 to 5: 10 pm (1) mike says:

I have worked in maintenance and repair of 45 years. you get what you pay. any device made by one man can be made and sold cheaper by another bu using inferior material poor design and workmanship unqualified. who buys any product on the basis of the price only is mans' legal prey. Nuff said. be careful, take is slow and try to do it right the first time, but if not, do so again until get you right.

There are all kinds of tools and a wide range of quality. It is very true what it says Matt. I would like to add one reflection on cats.

Tools for your security is one place that you should never skimp. I had a friend years ago who led in race tracks with me. We were instructors. Porsche Club requires helmets. I used to say to those who were opposed to the high cost of a helmet, "If you have a $20 head, buy a helmet for $20"!

When I started working on my own cars for more than 40 years, it was poor and barely starting. But I realized account that a hydraulic floor Jack was something I had to have and wanted a cat really well, sure. I bought a 1

Learn more about the cars with your friends

There are several ways to learn more about cars. One popular way is a technical school training. When you register at one of these automotive technology programs you use a recommended text book and hands on experience coupled with the classroom of a teacher who was fortunately a mechanic.

The younger guys that I have never worked with just completed a program of car repair at our local community college. This mechanic is so young, I can say that I have turn key before his birth. He introduced in his book of text and let me be used to study for the ASE tests.

This is the only book that he has bought for its automotive technology courses. He uses it to learn more about the cars in the classroom, but it is also used to work in the future. This gives it an advantage over other students of the class which is where the bare minimum. He finished first in his class, and this is how he managed to get a job with our company fleet.

Install Brake Pads the Correct Way

Taking a little careful when you install the brake pads will ensure that you will get the maximum life of their. One of the often overlooked elements would be to restore or replace the equipment.

This can ensure the appropriate calibre movement and may also help prevent brake noise and wear uneven pad. Note: at the bottom I added brake and supplies special tools to perform high-quality brakes replacement.

I added a 2 minute video shows the procedure of blocking buffer. Although the video was more than a slap in the face operation and go, it would be a good example how lump sum mechanics to do the work. You can take your time and get the best results. For God sakes replace retention clips if they come with the new buffer. Many mechanical brake shop throw these in the garbage.

Automotive Multimeter Golden Rules

A multimeter is hands down, the most useful tool for automotive electrical diagnosis. They call this diagnostic tool a must-have for all mechanics, whether they are professional car technicians or do-it-yourself driveway mechanics.

The reason that this is often said is because automotive meters are capable of performing many standard and advanced auto repair troubleshooting procedures.

Why not take the guessing out of diagnosis and only replace failed components. Most automobile electrical parts can be tested before replacing. Relays, switches, circuit breakers, fuses, resistors and coils can all fail. Learn how to test them and a reliable way to do it!

See Engine Noise Diagnosis Videos

Proper engine noise diagnosis is a very important issue to address. In fact improper diagnosis can lead you on a wild goose chase. Note that I added 2 important videos of a true rod knock and a lifter tap at the bottom so you can be clear on the different sounds they make!

Here is an example of a mistake I made that taught me this valuable lesson. I had a double knock and believed the engine noise was a wrist pin. I removed the engine and disassemble it only to find out it was a camshaft thrust plate that came loose. I wasted day’s of work that was not needed. I was young when this happened but I think about it often when I hear engine noises.

Sometimes an engine malfunction will reveal itself first as an unusual noise. This can happen before the problem affects the actual performance. Some of these problems include badly worn piston rings or ring lands, loose wrist pins, worn main bearings or connecting rod bearings, and loose valve train components all produced telltale noises that are unique.
